Totally Accurrate Highschool (2019) Single Player Narrative High-school Simulation Demo where your Choices don't matter

Made in a group of 3 for an programming assignment with the goal of testing new systems of gameplay. Normally narrative games like to give players the impression that they are in control and changing the story. We wanted to challenge that by taking that perceived control away from the players and replacing it with randomized formats like a plinko board.

Demo Day

The idea was to create a prototype consisting of one day of school with minigames to take the place of class/assignments. If one day was successful, then a game containing a full school year could really teach players some useful knowledge in a new fun and creative medium.

Story

We worked on this prototype for about a month and we chose a story that would be silly yet concise. The whole plinko concept adds the possibility for a lot of humour when the game calls you out for "choosing" incorrectly. It should be played lightheartedly to enjoy the chaos.

Mini Class

It was my job to come up with some fun game representations of common high-school classes. I wanted to incorporate the randomness of the plinko boards into the games.

Math Class

Essentially a multiple choice quiz.

First introduction to a class and I used it as the introduction of the plinko board mechanic.

Music Class

Create music at the drop of a ball.

I programmed a few songs into the game which play note by note when the ball lands on a peg.

Gym Class

Dodgeball with a few twists and turns.

Constant waves of balls spawn above a plinko board and fall through while you try to avoid them.
